Online ST. PATRICK SAVES THE DAY – A Comic Irish Mummer Performance

St. Patrick Saves the Day is a comic Irish mummer play. Written and directed by Sandra Hughes. Performed by Michael Hickey as St. Patrick and Jim Alexander as The Spirit of Old Ireland. Featured are traditional Irish straw Mummer masks hand-crafted by Michael. Maewyn Succat escapes from Ireland. He’s sixteen years old. Years later he returns as the Roman-Briton bishop who will become Saint Patrick. Patrick mistakenly identifies a resident Druid as a snake. As the two men and their two cultures collide comic mayhem ensues.Gateway’s Irish mummers have performed throughout Ireland and the Highlands and Islands of Scotland. They also delighted audiences at the International Festival of Masks in Denmark. Atlanta highlights include the International Year of Beckett Festival at Emory University and Celtic Christmas. Traditional Irish fiddler and singer Moira Nelligan performs with the Gateway mummers. She is a receiptient of a traditional arts award as Master Artist of Irish Fiddle from the state of Georgia.
